Reel Eats helps you turn a recipe video into a ready-to-collect supermarket basket. This policy explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to what we genuinely need to make the app work — and we never sell your personal information.
This policy is provided by [Your legal entity / business name] (“Reel Eats”, “we”, “us”). If you have any questions, contact us at hello@reeleatsapp.net.
1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to the Reel Eats mobile app and website, and to everyone who uses them — whether you’re a home cook or a recipe creator.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
Account details — your name and email, or the basic profile from Apple/Google sign-in when you choose that option.
Recipe links — the TikTok, Instagram or other URLs you paste or share into the app so we can pull out the ingredients.
Your preferences — dietary settings (e.g. vegetarian, gluten-free), goals and macro targets, and your chosen supermarket.
Baskets & pantry — the items in your baskets, your saved recipes, reorder history, and anything you add to pantry tracking.
Photos you upload — a profile photo, or a “Made it” photo of a dish you cooked, if you choose to add one.
Feedback — the private “did everything match?” feedback you send after cooking, and any messages you send us for support.
Information collected automatically
Usage & device data — basic information about how you use the app and the device/app version, so we can fix problems and improve features.
Error reports — diagnostic logs when something crashes, so we can repair it.
3. How we use your information
To extract ingredients and estimate nutrition from the recipe links you share.
To match those ingredients to products at your supermarket and build your basket.
To suggest substitutes when an item is out of stock.
To run your account, save your recipes, and remember your preferences and pantry.
To improve our ingredient-matching using your private feedback.
To provide support, keep the app secure, and meet our legal obligations.
4. AI processing
To read a recipe, we send the recipe link (and the post’s public caption or, where enabled, an audio transcription) to a trusted AI provider to extract the ingredient list and estimate macros. This is used only to build your recipe and basket. We do not use your personal account data to train AI models.
5. How recipe links and social platforms work
Reel Eats reads public recipe content using the platforms’ own official tools. We do not log in as you, scrape your private content, or access your private saved/bookmarked posts on TikTok or Instagram. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
6. Who we share information with
We share only what’s needed to provide the service, and only in these situations:
Supermarkets — when you choose to send a basket or open an item, we hand the relevant items off to your selected retailer (e.g. Woolworths) so you can complete click & collect in their app or site.
Recipe creators — your private post-cook feedback is shared only with you and the recipe’s creator, to help fix wrong items or quantities. Public signals are limited to positive, aggregated ones (e.g. “cooked” counts) — never a personal review tied to you.
Service providers — hosting, storage, analytics and our AI provider, who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of users and Reel Eats.
Business transfers — if Reel Eats is involved in a merger or acquisition, data may transfer as part of that deal.
We do not sell your personal information.
7. Affiliate & referral revenue
Reel Eats may earn a commission when you place a grocery order through a retailer we link to. This helps keep the app mostly free. It doesn’t change the price you pay, and it doesn’t involve selling your personal data.
8. Storage & security
Your information is stored on secured servers, and we use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your data and limit access to it.
9. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, and only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain some records legally.
10. Your choices and rights
Access & correction — you can view and update your profile and preferences in the app.
Deletion — you can delete your account at any time, which removes your personal data as described above.
Marketing — you can opt out of promotional messages while still receiving essential service messages.
To make a request, contact us at hello@reeleatsapp.net. As an Australian business, we handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
11. Children
Reel Eats is not directed at children under [16]. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we’ll remove it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
